News Of The Day: Robber Pulls Robbery On Lunch Break Of Robbery Trial

Methinks the man has a problem. From Business Insider.

BIZARRE CRIME OF THE DAY: Man Robs Jewelry Store While On Trial For Robbery

What's better than going on trial for one robbery? Going on trial for two, if you're serial thief Mark Burgin.

Last week, Burgin was on trial in Tennessee for the 2009 knifepoint robbery of a man at a truck stop when he left the courthouse during lunch and allegedly stole $45,000 worth of jewelry from a nearby jewelry store, according to the AP.

A store clerk caught him wearing a Rolex, which he returned, but he fled the scene with several other pieces of jewelry moments later.

Authorities waited until after Burgin's guilty verdict in the knifepoint robbery was delivered the next day to re-arrest him.

According to the AP, the robbery was common knowledge around the courthouse, but Judge Robbie Beal kept the news from the jury while the trial wrapped up.

  1. Unbelievable. Recidivism run amok. This guy needs some intensive therapy, I think. As soon as he gets out of jail, I bet he'll be right back at it again.

  2. Recidivism. Ree-peat o-ffender. Not a pretty name, is it?
No, sir. That's one bonehead name, but that ain't me any more.
You're not just telling us what we want to hear?
    No, sir, no way.
'Cause we just want to hear the truth.
Well, then I guess I *am* telling you what you want to hear.
Boy, didn't we just tell you not to do that?!
    Yes, sir.
    Okay, then.
